Which projects is it for?
The XL is an open-frame FDM printer with a build volume of 360 × 360 × 360 mm per Prusa Research, available with one to five automatically interchangeable toolheads. It targets large single-piece parts and multi-material prints without manual filament swaps.
The tool changer also enables soluble supports or multiple colors on a complex part, a different use case from simply scaling up a single-nozzle printer like the MK4S.
Materials and setup
Prusa Research lists PLA, PETG, ASA, ABS, PC, PA, TPU/Flex, composite materials, and soluble supports, with a hotend up to 290°C and a heatbed segmented into 16 independent zones reaching up to 120°C to reduce warping on large surfaces.
The tool changer replaces a spool-based system: each head can load a different material, with automatic nozzle cleaning between swaps rather than a classic AMS or MMU setup.
What the bundle includes or not
Per Prusa Research's listing, box contents depend on the configuration chosen: number of toolheads (one to five), kit or assembled version, always including the power cable, the handbook, and access to the online manual.
The optional enclosure stabilizes temperature up to roughly 50°C, with an external heater module advertised to go further. Check precisely the configuration and toolhead count included in a listing before buying.
