Resin printer screen protectors: matching the exact model

The screen protector described by Phrozen is a plastic film on the LCD beneath the vat. Its help page distinguishes this accessory from the shipping film removed during unboxing. This guide explains how to identify an existing protector, compare published references and dimensions, and follow the accessory’s installation instructions. It does not instruct you to peel an unidentified panel layer; check the warranty terms for your printer.

The short answer

You choose a resin printer screen protector by exact model name and published dimensions, not by the rough size of the screen. According to Phrozen's help center, every Phrozen LCD ships with a removable shipping film, and only certain named models also carry a preinstalled protector. Phrozen's protector product page lists four variants with their dimensions and applicable models, two of which are family labels that do not certify every revision. The installation instructions name cleaning accessories, which does not establish package contents; Phrozen asks you to redo Z-axis calibration afterward.

Distinguishing shipping film from an installed protector

Before you order anything, identify what is actually covering your LCD. According to Phrozen's help center, all of its LCD screens ship with a protective film meant to prevent damage during transit. On newer models that film is on both sides of the panel. It usually has a green or red tab you pull to peel it off, and Phrozen says you must remove it before printing. When there is no tab, the company asks you to locate the film visually and by hand.

The shipping film is not the preinstalled protector: Phrozen’s help page distinguishes them and says some models have both. These pages do not give a procedure for removing other layers from the panel. If you cannot identify the layer in front of you, stop and ask for model-specific guidance before peeling it.

You may see a tabbed shipping film, a protector preinstalled on certain models, or a layer these instructions do not identify. Remove the shipping film as described by Phrozen; if another layer remains ambiguous, do not peel it based on this page and ask support to confirm the model. The rest of this article covers LCD protectors described in our resin workshop.

Which Phrozen models ship with a protector already installed

Phrozen’s help center names five machines shipped with a preinstalled LCD screen protector in addition to the standard shipping film: Sonic Mighty 12K, Sonic Mini 8K S, Sonic Mighty Revo, Sonic Mega 8K V2 and Sonic Mega 8K S. On those models, removing the tabbed shipping film leaves the preinstalled protector in place.

This list reflects the models named in the help article and does not establish the configuration of every revision. A missing model is not necessarily shipped without a protector. Inspect the surface after removing the identified shipping film, without peeling another layer to find out what it is. If the remaining layer is ambiguous, give support the exact model and photos instead of relying on appearance alone.

If you own a Phrozen Sonic Mighty Revo or a Sonic Mini 8K S, the documentation gives you a direct answer. For any other machine, Phrozen points you to its support team or your authorized reseller, with photos or video of what you are seeing.

Reading the protector spec sheet: published dimensions and applicable models

Phrozen's LCD screen protector product page describes four variants, all made of PET. The 10.1 inch version measures 223 mm by 126 mm and lists the Sonic Mighty Revo as its applicable model. The 10 inch version measures 215 mm by 121 mm and targets the Sonic Mighty 8K and Sonic Mighty 12K. The 7 inch version measures 71 mm by 165 mm for the Sonic Mini Series. The 15 inch version measures 332 mm by 188 mm for the Sonic Mega Series.

Two reading points matter. First, these are the dimensions of the protector film, not the active area or diagonal of the LCD. You should not expect your own caliper measurement of the panel to match these numbers exactly. Second, the gap between the 10 inch and 10.1 inch variants shows why an approximate size is not enough: eight millimeters in length and five in width separate two protectors meant for machines in the same Mighty family.

The safe method is to start from your printer's full name, including suffixes like 8K, 12K, S or V2, then find that name in the applicable models column. If you are still deciding between two machines before buying, our resin printer guide helps you name exactly what you are after.

Mini Series or Mega Series: what a family label does not guarantee

Two of the four variants do not name a model but a family: Sonic Mini Series and Sonic Mega Series. That wording comes straight from Phrozen's product page, not from our interpretation. It means the manufacturer groups several machines under one protector reference without listing each variant or each screen revision.

You should not read more into it than what is written. The page does not say the 7 inch variant fits a Sonic Mini 8K or a Sonic Mini 8K S specifically, nor that the 15 inch variant fits a Sonic Mega 8K V2 rather than a Sonic Mega 8K S. Those models appear in the help article about preinstalled protectors, but the product page stops at the series label. Assigning compatibility to a specific revision from the family name alone would be an extrapolation.

So the check is twofold. Confirm your machine belongs to the series named. Then, if your exact model is not written out, ask Phrozen support or your reseller to confirm before you buy, which is exactly what the company suggests. The same caution applies to protectors from other manufacturers, which the sources behind this page do not cover.

Installing without disturbing the optics: the manufacturer's procedure

Phrozen’s product page describes a six-step installation and names the items used. Clean the screen with wet wipes, then dry it with the microfiber cloth. Pick up remaining dust with the dust absorber. Peel the plastic cover film off the protector, place it on the LCD, then use the squeeze card to seat it. Finally, peel off the frontside plastic and wipe with the microfiber cloth.

The procedure describes cleaning the surface and applying the protector; it is not a procedure for dismantling the panel or removing its layers. Follow the listed steps for the accessory and do not add actions on a screen film you have not identified.

The page carries two notices. Peeling the protective film may generate static electricity and attract dust, which is why Phrozen says to install in a clean environment. And after installation, Phrozen asks you to conduct Z-axis calibration again. This step is specific to the protector and the machine; the source says nothing about a universal Z offset or exposure compensation. The broader context is covered in our 3D printer calibration guide.

Bubbles, scratches, warranty: what the sources say and what they leave open

According to Phrozen’s help center, an air gap between the protector and LCD can cause bubbles. The company suggests removing and reinstalling it, or buying another from its website. The pages do not quantify any effect on a print, so do not infer that bubbles caused a defect from their presence alone. The vat film is a separate component, covered in our page on FEP, PFA and ACF vat films.

The pages consulted give no measurement of scratch resistance, UV transmission or optical neutrality. For bubbles, Phrozen suggests reseating the protector or buying another; it does not recommend replacing the LCD for that reason alone.

As for warranty, the sources behind this page do not include Phrozen's terms. Do not assume anything either way. Phrozen points to its warranty policy and to its support team; that is where to check before you intervene, with photos ready.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to remove every film on a resin printer's LCD?

No. Phrozen distinguishes the shipping film, which it says to remove before printing, from the preinstalled protector on certain models. If you cannot identify another layer, stop and ask for instructions for your printer.

How do I know if my Phrozen already has a screen protector?

Phrozen's help center names five models shipped with a preinstalled protector: Sonic Mighty 12K, Sonic Mini 8K S, Sonic Mighty Revo, Sonic Mega 8K V2 and Sonic Mega 8K S. The list is dated and not exhaustive. Check visually after removing the tabbed film, or ask support.

Can I pick a protector based on my screen's diagonal?

That is risky. The dimensions on Phrozen's page are the protector's, not the active area's, and the 10 inch and 10.1 inch variants differ by several millimeters. Start from your full model name and find it in the applicable models list.

Does a Sonic Mini Series protector fit my Sonic Mini 8K S?

Phrozen's page only says Sonic Mini Series, without naming each revision. The family name alone does not certify compatibility with a specific model. Confirm with Phrozen support or your reseller before buying.

What should I do after installing a screen protector?

Phrozen asks you to redo Z-axis calibration after installation and work in a clean environment. For bubbles, its help page suggests reseating or replacing the protector; that does not guarantee every bubble will disappear or diagnose a print defect.
