3D printer accessories: what to get now and what can wait?
Buy what your setup actually needs. The contents of the box and your chosen process determine the first list, rather than a universal accessory bundle.
Start with the box contents
Read the official list of included tools, build plate, material sample and optional accessories. Check the actual quantity provided. A small sample may not cover a multi-part project. Divide your list into items required to start, items needed for your chosen project and items to consider after identifying a problem. This keeps optional upgrades from consuming your initial material budget.
For a filament printer
Choose material compatible with the printer, nozzle and selected profile. Check filament diameter, spool format and compatibility with any automatic feeder. Use the instructions for your exact machine and build surface when selecting tools and cleaning products. A method suitable for one plate may not suit another. Brand name alone is not enough to establish nozzle or plate compatibility.
For a resin printer
The printer is only one part of the workflow. Check the resin manufacturer’s washing and curing instructions, associated consumables and workspace requirements. Consult the instructions and safety data sheet for the exact resin to determine the necessary precautions. A combined wash-and-cure station is one possible workflow option; it does not replace checking part compatibility and the material’s processing instructions.
Let the project determine the extras
An assembly may require screws, inserts or magnets specified by its designer. A fitted part needs dimensions you can check before committing to repeated prints. A painted finish adds its own steps. Build your list from the selected model and its assembly instructions. This avoids completing all printed components before discovering a missing non-printed part.
Storage, drying and later upgrades
Storage and drying address different needs. Storage aims to preserve material; drying needs a process appropriate to the exact material and spool. Before buying equipment, describe the problem it should solve and your expected use. Postpone modifications that change several aspects of the machine at once. A known starting configuration makes results easier to understand and support requests easier to explain.
