FDM vs resin: which process fits your projects?

FDM deposits melted filament; common desktop resin machines cure liquid photopolymer layer by layer. Compare the entire workflow, not just the printer.

Start with the object

Consider fine-feature requirements, overall dimensions, intended material properties and finishing. Desktop resin is a candidate for small detailed objects; FDM is a candidate for larger organizers, scenery and filament-based parts. These are starting points, not guarantees for a specific machine.

Compare after-print work

FDM can require support removal and finishing. Resin typically also requires washing and post-curing according to its instructions. Include the space, consumables and handling requirements in your choice.

Material comes before a technical claim

An enclosure, a 16K screen or a high advertised speed does not prove that a printer can produce a part fit for your intended application. Use the exact material data and manufacturer instructions.
